President Signs Executive Order

The president signed the executive order today keeping tax payer money from funding abortion. I wasn't too happy when I heard this was how the abortion issue in health care reform was to be handled. I don't like that the Hyde amendment isn't in the bill itself. I think that makes it pretty easy for Obama, or any president that comes after him, to change it whenever they see fit. Like around re election time. That being said it's better then nothing.
The protections for the unborn would have been stronger if Bart Stupak and his band of "pro life Democrats" had actually stood up for what they believe is right and wrong instead of doing what's popular. Oooops there I go again. Acting like any of these politicians actually have morals and standards they live by...silly me!

No Beef

Last week the Governor in Michigan called for a day free of eating meat to encourage people to become vegetarian. Excuse me? What the hell is going on in this country?
We need the government to do many things. Protect us, clean the streets, provide police, fire and ambulance service, pick up the trash and that is about it as far as I am concerned. Them getting involved in what we eat is just one of many ways the government is overstepping it's boundaries. But this kind of idea is only going to become more prevalent now that we have allowed the federal government to get involved in our health care decisions.
They are slowly chipping away at our freedoms. At our ability to make personal choices for ourselves. If I want to get up and eat a slab of bacon and ten fired egg sandwich's daily it's nobodies damn business. Especially not the governments. Is this what we want as Americans?
I know a lot of people say "it's just a little thing the government is trying to do. Whats the big deal?" That's how the government takes over our lives...bit by bit. They aren't stupid. They know we won't tolerate big changes all at once. Or at least up until now we wouldn't.
My paranoid brain sometimes wonders if the government purposely let the health care industry get this far out of control so the only option would be let the government handle it.
Just like the five cent plastic bag tax, the government is slowly taking more and more from us. We have to wake up and remember our country is all about personal freedom and choice. Don't give it up out of fear.
