Parking Tickets After Blizzard

I finally got a plow down my street about 15 minutes ago. I am happy to see it but am worried the city will now use the plowed streets as an excuse to start ramping up the ticket writing. They better not even try it.
As it was before the plows came there is about 3 feet of snow piled on the cars that haven't been cleared and in any empty spaces. There are 5 or 6 foot high mounds of snow where cars and driveways have been cleared limiting the available parking spaces. Now that the plows have come they have pushed big chunks of snow and ice up into the spaces that were open and trapped most of the parked cars where they are .
I have a strong suspicion that we are going to see the parking Nazis, excuse me, parking enforcement swoop in and start ticketing those of us who have no choice but to park in illegal spaces. On a normal day I understand this but I am hopeful that the DC government won't be dicks and will understand that we citizens have no choice right now.
If they are tempted to ticket us DC voters we will remember in November.

Shoveling Out Old People

DC Blizzard 2010 Part 2 Video 2

Best Buy in the Blizzard

I went to Best Buy in Columbia Heights yesterday. It was packed. I was surprised so I took a pic of all the people in line at 1 PM on a Tuesday.
Second surprise was while I waited in line I noticed that they now sell Snuggies and things to put in womens hair at an electronics store.
Was this just for the storm or are they branching out?

Snow and Junk Food

I do not normally gorge on junk food. I like my potato chips and ice cream once in a while but there is something about the snow that makes me want to pig put. Monday , on top of "normal" food I ate a Hershey bar, a snickers, some almonds and some sherbet. Yesterday there was another Hershey bar w/almonds, a strawberry pop tart, and some BBQ potato chip along with more sherbet and some donut holes. Today most of the junk is gone and my corner store is closed I'll finish up the donuts and ice cream.
We better get some sunshine back soon or I'm gonna weigh 400 pounds!

Still No Plows

This is day two after an admittedly huge snow storm and my neighborhood hasn't seen 1 plow. The snow is packed on the street about 3 to 4 inches deep. Today at the intersection of Brown St. NW and Newton St. NW two cars and a tow truck were all stuck in the intersection at the same time. I helped the tow truck driver and after about 30 minutes he finally got unstuck, went about 2 feet and got stuck again. The car and the mini van drivers helped each other out. This is unacceptable.
I heard Adrian Fenty or one of his minions saying that they had hit most of the side streets at least once. I'm still waiting for my pass. I look up half a block to 16th street and see the trucks going by with their plows up.
I was walking home from the grocery store today when one of the plow drivers had the nerve to stop and tell someone not to shovel snow into the streets. "We are trying to clear the roads " he says as he pulls off, with his plow still in the up position. The guys looked at me and I said "your better then me! I'd have said fuck you and kept on shoveling!".
There is no where else to throw the snow. The areas between cars are full. The yards are full. The side walks are barely passable. Where would this asshole like them to put the snow?
City officials better remember this is an election year. People were already sick of a lot of these politicians before all the snow. Now folks are really pissed.
It would probably be a good idea to stop patting yourselves on the back as a lot of us citizens sit on our asses stuck!

Morning After DC Blizzard

I make a few slight exagerations in this video. I say the snow is up to my chest. I mean the snow that has been dug out and piled up is up to my chest.
I say I am walking on 8 inches of packed snow. That ain't true either. More like 2 or 3.
We'll blame it on lack of food. Went to shovel with no breakfast.

How To Assure Snow Removal in DC

I have come up with a way to assure that all of the residents of Washington DC have a snow plow, with its plow down, come through our neighborhoods after a snow storm.
This is prompted by the fact that I saw a government official on TV today saying they had hit "most" of the side streets in DC at least once. BULLSHIT as usual. They love the word "most". It gives them the wiggle room to do absolutely nothing in some areas and then claim no one contacted them or they " some how missed that street".
Anyway...back to the solution. The city gets 24 hours after the last flakes stop to at least make one pass through the whole city. That means EVERY neighborhood. For everyday that a plow doesn't come through a citizens neighborhood, after a snow storm of 3 inches or more, we get a refund of the tax money that would have been spent to clear our streets. In storms of 8 inches or more they got one extra day.
There has to be a financial penalty for their lack of ability to handle ANY snow storm.
As much tax as we pay in this city we shouldn't have to ski to work!
