Who Gets Rescued First?

I was watching an interview with some of the parents of American students missing in Haiti. They were very angry that our government has soldiers on the ground in Haiti and they hadn't gotten to their children yet. Are our rescue teams supposed to help Americans first?
When we send rescue teams to disasters they are supposed to help those most in need first. If there is a school full of kids trapped and a hotel with adults trapped I think the children are the priority. I am sure if it was my teenage son or daughter stuck under rubble so far away i would be out of my mind with fear and worry. I would be angry that I could do nothing to help. I can understand that.
If there were a huge earthquake in DC and teams were sent in from all over America and the Virginia rescue team went to rescue people from Virginia before helping school kids we would be repulsed. This is the same thing in my opinion.
Rescue teams have to prioritize. They have to do things in an orderly fashion. It means that some people will die because of the long wait. That is a terrible thing but this is a huge tragedy. Only so much can be done.

Violence Because of Poverty

No Party Affiliation

One of my subscribers on my YouTube channel posted this quote in response to my video on being an unaffiliated voter.
"There is nothing which I dread so much as a division of the republic into two great parties, each arranged under its leader, and concerting measures in opposition to each other. This, in my humble apprehension, is to be dreaded as the greatest political evil under our Constitution."- John Adams 2nd President of the U.S.A.
These early Americans seemed to know whats best for America better then our recent leaders. Shame we don't listen to them.

A Way To Help Haitian Children

Whenever their is a natural disaster I feel compelled to help in any way I can. It usually means giving money to a charity I trust. I always wish there was a more direct, involved way to help. I have been presented with a possible way to actually help by getting involved.
A friend just posted on Facebook that she knows someone who adopted two Haitian children that just arrived in the US yesterday. They need clothes for the children. I don't have kids but I do have money that I can use to help the parent/parents of these children.
I am so excited to possibly have a way to directly help kids in need instead of donating money and hoping it is used correctly.
If anyone has any clothes for toddlers they would like to donate please contact me by leaving a message here and we can meet. I live in Washington DC.
Thank God for this opportunity to help.

Campaign Finance and The Supreme Court

The Supreme Court just ruled 5 to 4 in favor of corporations being able to give money to candidates during elections. Or at least can pay for ads for their candidate of choice.I am sure there is more to it but that seems to be the gist of it.
I do understand that the Supreme Court is here to interpret law. But this is ridiculous to me. We do not need more business interfering in our political process. Our government is supposed to be all about the people. Letting these crooked corporations to influence things with their massive piggy banks just doesn't seem right. They are making it harder and harder for a regular Joe to hold any position of power in our country. Is that their goal? It seems that way.
I thought The Supremes were supposed to help the American people!

One Year Ago...

I was so much more bitter then I am today. What made me realize this was going through all the photos on my hard drive.
I got a point and shoot digital camera last January. The main reason was I get so pissed when I see police officers breaking the same rules that they are here to enforce that I planned on photographing them and putting them on my blog. A few weeks after getting the camera I also started photographing the people in my neighborhood that park illegally every Sunday for church. Once again because of the double standard. I still feel these people are hypocrites but I have too much going on in my life now a days to worry about these kinds of seemingly petty problems.
I am grateful to have more going on in my life and I am grateful that I am not carrying around the same amount of anger and bitterness as I was just over a year ago.
It's good to have little milestones in our lives to remind us how far we have come.

Torn

This is being reprinted from my other blog www.livinmilife.blogspot.com .
When I see the children of Haiti suffering I am torn about what to do. Part of me says pick them all up and take them to other countries where they can be adopted by families that are better able to care for them. On the other hand I feel it is very important for these kids to be with their families, if they are still alive. I also think its important that we understand money isn't everything.
There are many great people in our country and across the world that were raised in poor conditions. I think sometimes we Americans confuse love for children with making life easy for them. Easy lives don't usually produce the great leaders our world needs.
We grow from adversity and having things not always be easy. I think that is the reason for a lot of the problems in our country now. A lot of peoples lives are so easy there is no reason to grow into a different kind of person.
I want to help people help themselves, not just give them a hand out.
