I have a friend whose niece works in the DC summer jobs program. She called my friend yesterday to let her know that the government was calling them all together today for a meeting.
She went to the meeting today to be told that as of July 22 the summer jobs program will run out of money.
Hmmm...didn't the summer just start? They should call it the DC June and part of July jobs program.
I don't think it is the cities responsibility to provide jobs in the first place but if you promise something to the parents of these young people, you better deliver.
How did the Mayor and his cronies not know how much money the city has available for this program. Adrian Fenty seems as inept at controlling where my tax money goes as Marion Barry.
Maybe if he spent more time concentrating on city business and less on trips to China and races through DC we wouldn't have this problem.
Fucking useless!
*Update* Here is a link to a story about the problem. It appears the city council is not wanting to fund the program beyond that date . These funding decisions need to be made before the kids even start working. I say fund it all the way through the summer or not at all. Thanks for the info Michael Nelbauer
