I just watched a story on FOX 5 news about the people that sit around all day playing chess in Dupont Circle in DC. They made it sound like a good thing.
The guy doing the story said some do it to make money and that we shouldn't judge their mental abilities based on them being homeless.
I agree. We can judge that they are leeches on society. If you have a job and want to take the afternoon to play chess in the park, great.
If you are begging for food and money and then have time for a game of chess, there is a problem.
If you are smart enough to play chess you are smart enough to get a fuckin job. The press needs to stop holding up lazy people as examples for the others.
You play chess AFTER work!

Yeah. As a liberal, I hate the media glorification of chess bums. Chess is used by bums as a form of escapism while they neglect other parts of life. I know, I"ve been there.
